o.k., a quick detour to map out squid anatomy for both inklings in squid form and in inkling form (i don't exactly know what the forms are called). sure enough, nearly all of the main squid anatomy parts also appear in the inkling designs.... bravo splatoon!
especially with the default "inkling girl" hair you can really see how the arms and tentacles match up. so if you go on and look at the other drawings and are like "wait, this guy only draws that one hairstyle..." that's why. it's the most lore accurate (if the lore is marine biology i suppose) (i also really just love the hairstyle it's so iconic)
so this was both practice/study of splatoon artstyle+anatomy and sort of the basis for the inkling angel concepts (i wouldn't call adding a pair of wings and halo to an already established character "designs" but just like simple concepts idk)

(a.) is realistic squid. (b.) is splatoon squid form. (c.) is inkling form. that is the case for all drawings labeled like this.
o.k. here is the first type that are out there..somewhat guardian type, more likely to be seen. especially as far as the inkling form goes this is closest to "traditional" depictions of angels, familiar form. although the second type isn't that different either as you'll see. just a little bit. the wings are attached at the mantle or the "back."
the second type which is a more realistic squid-centered design. i.e. i have seen people draw squids with wings and halo like that and i was like hell yeah thsat's inkling too. you know? so with that in mind they are closer to their origin the ocean. observer type, less close to humans. the wings are attached to the very top of the mantel, above the fins. halo sits somewhere around the fins. otherwise not much is different visually.
